New fashion trends in today’s Moscow include Sunday brunches. It is difficult to say when exactly brunches appeared in Moscow. The word ‘brunch’ comes from England, from the most respectable university of Oxford. In 1880, writer and mathematician Lewis Carroll found out that in the afternoon sessions students needed more time to resolve their tasks because of irregular feeding and unsufficient rest-time. Then he decided to make a blend of words breakfast & lunch and sent a letter to the Oxford Chancellor, asking him to include brunch in the University’s daily schedule. The suggestion was approved and brunch has become a new Oxford tradition that later spread all over England and beyond.
